After years of recording violin covers and releasing songs on streaming platforms, I was finally given the chance to record a full album—from beginning to end—with one consistent sound. This opportunity came through Kickstarter and the many amazing people who support my work online. In February 2019 I launched my very first Kickstarter campaign for the album you are holding in your hands. Since many of my most popular songs are Disney covers, I figured it made sense to record a full album of Disney songs arranged for violin. When I discovered that my sound engineer, Bill Simpkins, was an accomplished guitarist, I asked if he would accompany me on this project. He said yes, and the concept for “Disney Strings” was born.

The Kickstarter was a success, surpassing our initial goal and allowing us to record twice as much music as original planned. It also afforded me the opportunity to record every song on a violin made in 1916 by American luthier Carl G. Becker. This rare instrument was rented to me by David Kerr Violins in Portland, Oregon. In addition, they loaned me a beautiful James Tubbs bow, thus creating a “magical” combination. Over the course of weeks and months, Bill and I recorded every song on this album. I was careful only to pick songs that I truly loved, and that sounded beautiful on our acoustic instruments. When recording finished, Bill edited and mixed every track before sending it to be fully mastered. This step is the “finishing touch” that makes an album sparkle. I am so proud of the time, energy, and love poured into “Disney Strings”. But mostly, I am simply grateful that I was given the chance to make it. To that I owe all of my thanks and appreciation to the individuals who backed my campaign on Kickstarter. Thank you!

A very special thanks to: Dan Grutzmacher, Cyrus Mostaghim, Michael Schrauth, Katherine Datamore, Sandy Stevens, Harry and Erlinda Willock, Michael Macbart, Chuck Roberts, Steven S., David Dooley, Sams Elebash, Scott Fack, Marco Giovanni Ferrero, David Kinard, Sandra Mohr, Jennifer W. Johnston, James Denzler, John Kannisto, and Anonymous. And, finally, I would like to thank my best friend, creative collaborator, and partner in life, Paul Castle. Without your constant support, wellspring of ideas, and genuine love of all things Disney — this album probably wouldn’t exist. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
