The Shirtless Violinist "Strips Down" for Debut Album

Before 35-year old Matthew Olshefski became known as The Shirtless Violinist, he was a Concert Master and soloist performing with acts such as Josh Groban and Andrea Bocelli. Born in Santa Fe, NM (and currently living in Seattle, WA) Matthew is a classically trained violinist who began playing at the age of 3.

But in 2016 Matthew doffed his tuxedo and a brand new act was born. Since posting his very first “shirtless” music video on YouTube, Matthew’s work has caught the eyes and ears of tens of millions across the internet.

After a successful Kickstarter campaign last March, Matthew has produced a collection of 12 Disney songs beautifully arranged for acoustic violin and classical guitar.

“There has been a trend toward electric violins for many years now,” says Matthew, “but this album celebrates the beauty and authenticity of acoustic instruments and nothing else.”

The idea came about when Matthew discovered his longtime sound engineer, Bill Simpkins, was a talented guitarist. Matthew pitched the concept of a stripped-down, acoustic rendering of classic Disney songs and Bill said yes.

When Matthew turned to his fans for financial support, his project was 133% funded on Kickstarter earlier this year.

The music video for the lead single “King of Pride Rock” was released in July and has 2.2 million views as of October 14th, 2019.

Disney Strings was released on October 11, 2019. It’s available as a CD, digital download, and limited edition vinyl. It can be streamed on App
